Day Twenty-Four

Something you've learned.

I am a fairly non-confrontational person. Most times, I don't see the need to make myself heard over relatively insignificant issues. Maybe because I have started paying all the bills or because I am in a job where I have responsibilities that directly effect others, I now have learned how to politely stand up for myself. Currently I am on the phone dealing with customer services representatives over an incorrect order that I otherwise would have let slide. I have had to demand certain standards be met by our landlord and I also refuse to pay for services that don't live up to their promise (Time Warner anyone?). I'm definitely not the nastiest of complainers (and I hope I never will be) but I am much more comfortable putting my foot down.

I have learned that speaking your mind and standing up for your beliefs is not only okay but it is important. If I let people use hateful language in my presence, I am allowing inappropriate habits to continue. Speaking up when no one will is something at which I strive to be better.

I have learned that being right is not as important as being fair.
