dan and me in hideously mismatched outfits inspired by my mom's wardrobe. it's meant to be that we're together
because no one else owns such hideous pajama pants.
dan came into town this weekend and we had such a good time just lounging around and having fun together. we went to beautiful laguna beach, ate yummy sandwiches at BJ's, and watched the sunset on the beach. (sunsets are the best time of day to enjoy the so cal skyline because you can't see the icky haze.) we were hiking around some rocks when we saw this girl with her family taking topless pictures! there were a bunch of people around and though dan missed them, i unfortunately got to see her ta-tas. lovely day, really.
thought no. 1: i can't wait until dan and i are together on a regular basis rather than sporadic weekends.
thought no. 2: not every beach is a nude beach.

one of the most gorgeous wedding cakes i've seen.
no, i'm not getting married but yes, i love weddings! i have a file on my computer titled "future" with all sorts of wedding stuff for future inspiration. coming up on graduation forces you to really look at what you could actually do for a career with your life. yet having this terrible economy makes me think pragmatically instead of idealistically---this may or not be a good thing.
my whole life i've loved weddings, performing, and organizing. though i could see myself doing any combination of the three i also feel like i shouldn't settle for anything. not that any of those professions are demeaning, but i feel like i want to do something great, something successful, and something i can be passionate about. a quote from the movie "p.s. i love you" sums up my feelings:

"All I know is, if you don't figure out this something, you'll just stay ordinary,
and it doesn't matter if its a work of art or a taco, or a pair of socks!
Just create something... new, and there it is, and its you, out in the world,
outside of you and you can look at it, or hear it, or read it,
or feel it... and you know a little more about... you.
A little bit more than anyone else does."
thought no. 3: i want to figure out what i want to do with my life professionally but i'm okay taking it one job at a time.

"NYC just got here this morning. 3 bucks, 2 bags, 1 me!"

it's official, dan and i will be moving to new york at the end of this summer! he's going back to juilliard and i'll be working and possible applying for grad schools. i'm SO EXCITED and a little nervous about moving to the big apple. i've never lived outside of california or in a big city and i love new york so it will be awesome to do so. ever since i went to new york when i was 16, i've wanted to live there! it also doesn't hurt that dan and i will be moving in together! i can't wait to figure out all of the little quirks he has and know that i get to see him every morning and every night. it will be wonderful!
thought no. 4: it's one thing to dream but actually acting on those dreams is a little scary; but i'm ready for the challenge!

Dearest Ashley, I think we really might be two of a kind. :)
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you one thing! That wedding file is wise and you should take it seriously!!
ReplyDeleteAlso do you know when you're moving to NY? I have a lot of friends from college out there and I would love to get you in contact with anyone who might be helpful or just fun! You might actually meet some of the nycers at the weddin'!
I hear winter stinks extra in NY but the thing about the east coast is every building is heated to the max so I really find its colder here in everyone's icey "its too expensive to heat in california" homes! Sturdy shoes and you'll be set!
