today, a choice monday of the first non-back to school september i've had in 17 years, i was DOMESTIC.
i grocery shopped at our local c-town market. our neighborhood is called inwood; don't ask me where the town of "c" is.
we call it c-town down to make it sound as ghetto fabulous as it really is. (probably a solid 60% of the store's goods are unmarked in price! frustrating to the core for a budgeter like myself.)
i signed for a UPS package with lovely domestic tools: a crock pot, a portable roaster/oven, a MAGIC BULLET (infomercials for my long awaited bullet were watched on several other domestic days of my past. my future mother-in-law gave it to me because she is wonderful!)...and a gift certificate to apple bees for days when domesticity and i are at odds with each other.
then i made cinnamon rolls because they stalked me this past week and my soul needed them. my thighs, not so much. but us domestics play tennis and go to the gym with our other domestic girlfriends, so i didn't mind. (note to self: play tennis and work out at the gym with girlfriends.)
i found a cute antique desk down the hall from our apartment and after deciding that it had indeed been abandoned, welcomed it to our home. after introducing it to the our modern, sleek desk, i explained to the two that they were not opposites so much as brothers from other mothers. i started the re-do and will post pictures tomorrow for other domestics who would like to ooo and ahh at my DIY project. (DIYs in the domestic world are a form of the antiquated social caste system: the more tremendous and creative the process=the higher up the caste you are.)
afterward, i made a lovely version of potato leek soup. i'll be a hippy chic domestic and simply outline the recipe since my cast level does not yet permit a full recipe with pictures...potatos, leeks, onion, garlic, chicken broth, water, milk, salt and pepper. rustic deliciousness. add some crusty bread and you've got a full flown deliciousy domestic dinner.
dan and i then of course needed a late night dessert. i quickly whipped up one of my favorite home-made goodies: apple brown betty. it's like apple pie only quicker, easier, and yummmmy.
you may call me martha. or betty.
tomorrow's projects: finish the desk, wash and fold our laundry, go to a job interview so i can mix in some working girl fierceness to my domestic ways.
cross your kitting needles for me :)
